A lot to think about....................

Ok, so my last post was a bombshell. I’m going back to school. Since that post I have been thinking a lot about my future, and I have a lot of questions that need to be answered. First off, I need to start thinking about a career path. I am going to initially obtain an Associates of Business Administration degree (Computer Information Systems). Then follow up with a Bachelor of Computer Science degree. This is where it gets tricky though. What to specialize in? Should I go with the Database Technology degree? Or is it good to keep it a little generic and just stick with the Bachelors of Computer Science degree? I also have an interest in web design, but am wondering how the pay is in that field. I don’t want to sound like all that matters is money, but it does play a significant role in my decision making process right now I’d like to make in the area of 70k a year (based on the cost of living in Michigan), not much less though. Another thing to consider is relocation. I am pretty much planning on relocating for a new career. Where? I have no idea. Most likely NOT California, but maybe west of here. Maybe southwest, say Texas, or New Mexico? We’ll see. It’s kind of funny, just talking about relocating gives me goose bumps. Just the thought of life outside Michigan is exciting. Michigan is fast becoming one of those places that you would describe with a phrase like, “it’s a nice place to visit, but I wouldn’t want to live there”. The economy here is based so much on manufacturing that the economic downturn due to globalization is killing this state. Also, Michigan’s scenery is getting a bit…bland. Sure we have beautiful places in Michigan, but the majority of that beauty is much farther north than where I live. It’s kind of funny, but for me, the aesthetics of my future locale are about as important as the cost of living and pay rates. I guess it goes to show you how much I am in love with nature and the world around me. One thing I have NOT thought about is the job market abroad. It might be interesting to see what kind of jobs are available over seas. That is something that I can’t even imagine, I might be too much a of a chicken to do that, and I have no idea how well received that might be by my wife (not good I‘m sure) I guess it would appear that I am getting into one of those “ramble on forever” posts so I better wrap it up.
