Walking Backwards down the road…………………..

Alright, a few weeks of Vista and I’ve had enough. It’s pretty, it runs smooth and fairly quick (almost as fast as XP on my box). All of my hardware functions perfectly, I did have to update drivers, but then again why wouldn’t I? But for me the reason to downgrade (upgrade?) to XP is application support. For me it has been a 50/50 crap shoot when it comes to applications functioning properly on Vista. Photoshop CS2 runs (with a few random bugs), Lightroom runs flawless but far too slow. Picassa has to default to the non-Aero interface and seems to run a bit slower. 3D Studio Max runs like shit. Cinema 4D won’t install properly. There are a few older games I am having issues with, but that isn’t too big a deal, but an annoyance nonetheless. I am wondering if the performance issues I am seeing on some apps is because of my system. I do have 2 gigs or RAM, and a decent Athlon FX processor, but I know I’ve read that 2 gigs of RAM is like the base amount. Regardless of this, I am going back down to XP Pro. I know all of my apps will run great on XP, and I know that 2 gigs of RAM on XP goes farther than it does on Vista. I’m just glad I didn’t use Bitlocker on my external drive before I made this decision. I guess I’m going to wait for the first service pack and more third party support before I jump back into Vista. I am however looking forward to Leopard in June. J
