The road to DSLR………………

So here I sit, awaiting a gift from heaven. Oh God, send me a Nikon D80, or even a Digital Rebel XTi. I know God doesn’t answer requests like this, so I am saving my pennies. Once I get this new camera I am going to start shooting pictures for profit. I was thinking of going to events that most people don’t think about to try and sell my services. For instance, one of the doctors my wife works for is a marathon runner, and he told her there are photographers at these events who sell single 8x10’s for like $50! Hell, I’d do it for $25. I have also been told by my sister in-law that there are photographers at horse shows who charge outrageous amounts for pictures of people horses. Again, I think if I go in, do some shooting run off some prints (basically create a small portfolio) and bring them to these events, my work will sell itself….well, that and my low cost! If there are any amateur photogs out there with some useful advice please feel free to contact me. I’m also looking for advice on what lenses I should purchase for my first few lenses, or I guess any other accessories that are must have items for someone looking to make some extra money.
