You know what today is right?

FRIDAY!!!!!!!!! OK, now that I have that outta my system I can go on with the rest of my day. It is a balmy morning, I am still damp from the walk into the building from the parking lot, feeling a little melancholy......So what do I do? I open up Winamp, and start with CD#1 of Pink Floyds "Delicate Sound of Thunder". I feel so much better now. :) I will never get over how different things can affect the way you feel, things that are benign to some degree. Music and smell are what I'm thinking of right now, like how certain smells can evoke a powerful response. Is this a hold over from our more "primitive" roots? I can see where the smells might be. The smell of SabertoothTiger urine evoked fear and loathing in early cavemen, and now the last vestiges of that once acute sense of smell used for self preservation are now used for the less important task of drudging up some feelings of nostalgia. And music, why is it so moving, so powerful as to be able to make people cry, or make them feel joyous, or even bring them to a state of rage? What is music? It's sound. What is sound? It's vibration of air. Why or rather HOW can vibrating air in a certain frequency and tempo make me feel such a wide array of emotions? Or am I just strange for wondering these kinds of things? It seems that periodically I start to over analyze the world around me, it's a common theme in many of my posts. My sense of "awe" at the world in which we live. It drives me crazy to think that people can't or just don't see the world the way I do. I'm completely sure I'm not the only one, but too many people just go about their daily lives oblivious to all the incredible things around them. I'll discuss just one thought I had the other day and then I'll end all this kind of talk for today. I was driving home yesterday from work, looking out the window I started to think about life on this planet. And not just life...But the sheer abundance of it, it is mind blowing just how much life this planet supports. What the hell am I talking about? Look outside at your yard, now look for every living thing you can see......Every bush, every bit of grass, every tree, the birds, squirrels, bugs, and now think about all of the things that you CAN'T see, like bugs in the soil, microbes, bacteria, molds, mushrooms, mosses, etc...... A lot of life eh? And this is just YOUR YARD! there is an ENORMOUS planet out there that is covered in life! And your yard is probably one of the LEAST populated areas on it! Especially if you have a "well manicured" lawn, because you use, pesticides, herbacides, fertilizers and all sorts of chemicals to keep your yard looking "good". These things all kill living things! Read up on the rainforests of South America and you will find out that there are more species of plants and insects per acre there than than anywhere else on earth! And there are MILLIONS of acres of rainforests (for now at least).

It is all so powerfully overwhelming to take in, maybe that is why most people seem to NOT take it in. But for me.....To live life and not acknowlede this.....would be sad.

Think about it. Go look out a window and think about it.
